VOLLEYBALL: Morrow, Jonesboro among local teams playing well entering region play

JONESBORO — Several local volleyball teams have impressed midway through their respective seasons.

The Morrow Lady Mustangs are 11-4 and have produced one of the top records in the county thus far. Morrow plays Forest Park in non-regi0n play tomorrow.

Jonesboro (9-5) has also gotten off to a fast start under first-year coach Dan Coons. The Lady Cardinals have played a challenging non-region schedule against the likes of Ola, Locust Grove and ELCA.

Elite Scholars Academy and head coach Yolanda Jenkins are 5-2 at this point in the season. ESA will continue non-region play this week but will meet Greenforest on Sept. 5 in their first region match of the season.

The Riverdale Lady Raiders are 5-5 heading into September. Riverdale has played an assortment of non-region opponents, but will kick off Region 3-AAAAA play Sept. 12 against Griffin. Drew is also off to a modest 4-3 start this season with Region 4-AAAAAA play beginning Sept. 5 against Tucker. Lovejoy is 3-2 so far.
